Our Italian Borgo – Vitorchiano has won the “Once upon a time there was a village” competition run by the national Italian newspaper, Il Messaggero.
The competition called for photos of medieval villages in Lazio to be sent in for the annual Il Messagero Calendar.
The photo of our Italian Borgo – Vitorchiano was voted the most popular and as such features with 11 other photos of villages of Lazio.
The top 12 photos in order of voting were:
1 – Vitorchiano (Viterbo)
2 – Gaeta (Latina)
3 – Vejano (Viterbo)
4 – Roviano (Rome)
5 – Cervara (Rome)
6 & 7 Marta, Lake Bolsena (Viterbo)
8 – Anticoli Corrado (Rome)
9 – Sperlonga (Latina)
10 – Illica, Accumoli (Rieti)
11 – Leonessa (Rieti)
12 – Civita Bagnoregio (Viterbo)
As you can see out of the 12 villages there are 4 in our region of Viterbo!! Such a beautiful, little known region of bella Italia.
